The Arbitration

In everyday school life, of course, there are also conflicts among the students at our school. Conflicts are part of human coexistence. It is important, however, to resolve them peacefully and to the satisfaction of all parties. What conflicts are, how they arise and how they can be resolved peacefully is something that individual pupils work out in the first half of the 9th grade during their training as dispute mediators. The trained mediators then receive a certificate and their individual commitment is documented in the reports for the following years.

The mediators help, guide, and support students in grades 5 and 6 in resolving conflicts. According to an agreed plan, mediators are in the playground once or twice a week to support the supervisors and can be addressed directly there or mediate in smaller disputes.

Our guiding principles are:

We solve everyday conflicts non-violently. We improve the school climate by reducing tension and conflicts.

At the beginning of each school year, the mediators introduce themselves to the students in grades 5 and 6. Beforehand, the class teachers addressed and discussed the goals and process of dispute resolution in social learning.

To process a dispute resolution:

Class teachers or the students themselves ask for appointments for dispute resolution, which should take place as soon as possible. Agreements are made between the parties involved, the compliance and success of which is checked at a further date. A new dispute settlement date may also be agreed. If possible, the mediators are in contact with the class teachers.

Team meetings are held regularly in order to find joint solutions for difficulties that have arisen, to clarify organizational matters and to improve processes. The mediators are supported and advised by a teacher at the school.
